Throughout this entire time, the jail nurse refused to see Ta'Neasha. One sergeant even told Ta’Neasha that she deserved to just lie on the ground “and suffer” because of her inability to dress herself. Officers continued to accuse her of faking and of acting like she was in kindergarten. When Ta’Neasha fell, head first into a steel bunk in the early afternoon, jail officers refused to help her. When she would try to stand, she would quickly fall.ĭespite the obvious, critical and emergent state that Ta’Neasha was in, her requests for help were repeatedly denied, ignored or laughed every single time by jail officers. She had filled a bucket with bloody vomit. Officers took several minutes to respond, only to stand over Ta’Neasha, belittle her, force her back to her cell and lock her down.Īfter this point, Ta’Neasha’s condition continued to decline. When the jail nurse saw Ta’Neasha on the morning of July 16, 2021, he also did nothing for her.īy 10:45 am, Ta’Neasha had collapsed on the floor of the common area, naked and covered in her own waste. Officers confirmed seeing the bloody vomit and confirmed seeing Ta’Neasha in an extreme state, but all chose to do nothing for her. Ta’Neasha made similar reports and requests throughout the night and into the morning. She reported vomiting blood to officers around 8 pm and requested to be taken to the hospital. On July 15, 2021, Ta’Neasha fell seriously ill in the jail. The jail is filled with overt racism Ta’Neasha was surrounded by inmates who constantly threatened her, called her racial slurs, placed nooses in her cell and discussed poisoning her. Ta’Neasha was one of only two Black women in the entire jail. The bond was eventually reduced to $4,000, but our family simply could not raise the money to get her out. For this, Ta’Neasha was initially given a bond of $50,000. She had been arrested for shoplifting, and for fleeing from an officer when he pulled a gun on her. On May 26, 2021, Ta’Neasha was booked for holding at the jail in Jackson County, Indiana. Simply having you in our corner means so much to all of us, as this has been a difficult fight that has felt very lonely at times. Please know that our family is so grateful for any and all support, regardless of whether it is financial. Now our family, for the reasons below, is asking for your support. Ta’Neasha was literally dying in front of the jail staff officers as they watched, did nothing and ignored her 20 hours of begging for help. Ta’Neasha was taken from our family by officers in the Jackson County, Indiana jail. She had a gift with children they loved her and she loved them. Ta’NEasha lived to make others smile and was the brightest part of our family. Ta’Neasha was a 23-year-old mother of a beautiful daughter.
